@ajhiflyer There is a vibrato, although he keeps it under control. It would be impossible to have power without vibrato; however, it is necessary to keep it controlled, what Keenlyside does perfectly.

  2. ajhiflyer says:

How good to hear a singer who has no need for vibrato to get their point across. Bravo.

  3. eurydike says:

if you dont like his Hamlet listen to somebody else :(

  4. MuscleDaddyCMH says:

It’s so nice to hear decent French at the Met… a rarity , esp in the “old” days. The stud who gives him the wine is damn hot too…..:)

  5. operaforever123 says:

Whoever thought of inserting the word ENCHANTERESSE into a baritone aria was a total genius…

  6. legoledinapata says:

wonderful! He can sing without any voice.

    ¡¡¡¡Maagniifiiqueee Et Exeeleenceee Chanteur y Acteur…Braavooooo!!!!

  8. assindiastignani says:

@kulturistimarsch That’s a bit harsh, don’t you think? He has a voice, just not for this role and most certainly not in this house. Let’s face it, 40 years ago this man would have been, at the most, a barely adequate Schaunard for the NYC Opera. On the other hand, if Thomas Hampson can sing the title role in BOCCANEGRA at the MET (and get applause, no less!!!) then who can you say no to??

  9. eurydike says:

@JohnFalocco it is on metplayer, see Metropolitan opera web, Metplayer is paid, you have to subscribe.
i think there is no dvd from the met production, but there is an older dvd with keenlyside and dessay.

  10. JohnFalocco says:

Nice video, do you have this production on DVD? Or was it released in DVD? Don’t you know?
By the way, who is the guy at 0:29?

    Thanks

  11. eurydike says:

@Transoxiana94 i am watching czech tv now – Don Giovvanni with Simon, and before the performance somebody spoke about it and said Keenlyside is a genius actor:))

  12. DessayBestSingerII says:

@matthieusarah according to what both casts say it is the same guy (Matthew Plenk is Arturo and Matthew Plenk is Marcellus)

  13. matthieusarah says:

At 2:50, the guy standing behind Kennlyside (curly dark hair and brown jacket), is he the one who played Arturo in Lucia at the Met with Dessay on March 2011?

  14. fludu1 says:

    SIMPLY FANTASTIC

  15. Transoxiana94 says:

His acting is like no other`s. Intense, melancholic, thoughtful… a real Hamlet. And his voice is SO beautiful. (just as much as him)

  16. LorraineCash says:

Oh one of my favorite arias ever!

  17. LordHettrick says:

@eurydike No, I actually don’t live in New York but rather in Montreal; I’ll probably see the Don Carlo on the Live HD broadcast. I wouldn’t want to miss our Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducting.

Did you see it or see the reviews?

  18. LordHettrick says:

  19. eurydike says:

@LordHettrick Didn´t you happen to see the Don Carlo – first night at the MET?

  20. eurydike says:

@LordHettrick and he has such a clear pronunciation:-)
