Avatar is a 2009 American science fiction movie written and directed by James Cameron, and starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang.
In the year 2154, the RDA corporation is mining Pandora, the lush, Earthlike moon of the planet Polyphemus, in the Alpha Centauri system. Parker Selfridge, (Giovanni Ribisi), the administrator, employs former marines as mercenaries to impart safety. The humans aim to take advantage of Pandora’s reserves of unobtanium, a valuable mineral.
Pandora is occupied by the na’vi, a Paleolithic genus of sapient humanoids with catlike characteristics. Physically stronger and several feet taller than humans, the blue-skinned indigenes live in peace with Nature and pray to a mother deity called Eywa.
