You can now hear this work performed in its entirety, uninterrupted, here: www.youtube.com In this 1960 recording, Belgian violinist Arthur Grumiaux (1921-1986) performs the first movement (part 1) of the Tchaikovsky violin concerto in D, Op. 35. Bernard Haitink conducts the Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam. This video was developed from a cassette that I purchased in the late 1970s, manufactured by Philips (Serial number 7311 067; corresponding LP, 6527 067). Program notes are in German and are included in full in the second track of this collection (Movement 1, part 2). The concerto is scored for 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets in A and B-flat, 2 bassoons, 4 horns in F, 2 trumpets in D, timpani and strings. Professionnel à 18 ans, il a mené une carrière internationale brillante. Son jeu sobre et intense et la sonorité très pure de son violon ont fait merveille dans tous les grands orchestres du monde. Il reçoit ses premiers cours de violon et de piano à l’âge de 3 ans par son grand père. À 6 ans, il entre au conservatoire de Charleroi, où il obtient ses premiers prix en violon et piano 5 ans plus tard. Il achève sa formation au Conservatoire de Bruxelles et il s’inscrit dans la classe d’Alfred Dubois, un élève d’Eugène Ysaÿe. Il
